                                                 Artist Statement

  From this classes, I learnt so many knowledge and technology  I never know before. Like 

the dreamcatcher. I think it the most difficult artwork for me. First of all, I used leather to rope all the metal ring. Then I used thread to rope in same distance six times. Then I let the thread through the middle of the thread again and again. It was hard of me to determine the same distance. So that my dreamcatcher looks a little crooked. But in general it looks have a other kind of beauty. Finally, I put some feather and beads as decorations to make it more colorful and beautiful. What's more, from this artwork, I learnt it’s background. It’s papular with American. People think it’s a symbol to protect family and children. 

  The pop art— iPhone 18 was my first artwork I did in this class. I thought it was very hard because we need to created bigger object which we saw in life. I never learnt that before. So I felt a little fear. But after Ms. Lesa taught us how to make it, I think it was not very hard to try. First, we drew the draft of the real iPhone. And determine its height, length and width after enlarge in same proportion. Then we put suitable old card board together with glue. Next  we use some newspaper which be soaked by glue to cover the whole old card boards. After it dried, we started to use paint to draw on the boards. We drew the night with the yellow stars and moon as background. Then we cut off some card boards to make these apps. Finally, we stick these apps in the iphone. I think the most difficult things during the working process is paint. When we finished that, we all were so proud of ourselves. It also let me know what is teamwork. I did the paint part, Eric put the newspaper on the board, Leo did apps part. We all have our own part to do, and we help each to finish it.

  My favorite artwork is printmaking—whale. I practiced the carving skills in the styro

Foam plate basic on my draft. Then I started in lino, but lino is very solid, so I can’t carve it will. So I spend a long time to finish this very simple whale. After that, I used brayer to rub ink on the plastic board, that I used brayer with ink to cover my lino. From this drawing, I chose the white ink, but I didn’t run the ink equably, so that in my drawing, somewhere is darker and somewhere is lighter. From this artwork, I learnt the history of the printmaking. It’s a very historical and useful technique. It stands the human’s wisdom. Next time, I want to try to do more difficult carving and chose more colors. 

Paint human face

Paint human face: paint on paper; 28 width 22 length; 2017

  It’s a painting. I match the color by myself. I put red and orange to make fresh color. And put blue, red and yellow together to make brown. Then you can see, in my drawing, you can see the charter looks a little unhappy. It stands for my feelings. In that time I’m not very happy because tomorrow would have a quiz. This painting strands my moon. And, I'm not good at drawing human face, I just follow the steps which how to draw human face. but in general, it looks great and colorful. 

Color theory

Color theory : paint on paper; 28 length 22 width; 2017

  It called Color theory, I use some color as base, the put some color which close or negative for the base to cover the base. As you can see in my drawing, I chose pink as background, so that I use red to cover it. But during the painting, I could’t match the color will. because I’m not familiar with the color theory. So I made a lot of mistakes. 

   I knew that color theory was originally formulated in terms of three "primary" or "primitive" colors—red, yellow and blue ( RYB )  because these colors were believed capable of mixing all other colors.

drawing Stick gesture

Stick gesture drawing : pencil on paper; 30 width 42 length; 2017

  It called stick gesture drawing. It’s a very fast way to draw, to keep artists’ ideas. From my drawing, it’s very clear that there is a person are siting. And you can see the person’s shape very specific. I just spent 2 minutes to finish this. However, during the drawing process, I could’t think the shape out very quickly. I know, I need more practice. From this drawing I know that a good and quick way to draw.

Proportions and face, light shadow

Proportions and face, light shadow :  pencil on paper;45 length 29 width; 2017

  It’s the largest drawing I done before. It about a woman. I need to observe her very carefully. I need to know where have shadow, and where is darker, where is lighter. In this drawing, at the right of woman’s face , nose and neck, the shadow is very dark. So draw the shadow very hard. During the drawing process, it very hard for me to drawing the shape of this woman. I’m not good at drawing, so that you can see it looks a little strange. But in general it looks nice.

One point perspective

One point perspective : paper pencil; 43 length 28 width; 2017

  It called one point perspective. I drew anything from one point. I chose sun as the point. And there are some buildings at the right. Some of them are cuboid, cylinder and irregular buildings. At the left, drew some trees and a lake. Above the sun, I drew some cloud and mountains. As you can see, closer to the sun, the objects become smaller, except those mountains, become they are on the horizontal line.

  That’s visual drawing. I knew that in visual drawing, you need to draw exactly what you see not the thoughts of your brain. 

Printmaking

Print making: Lino, ink on paper, carving tools, brayer; 28 length 23 width; 2017

  It’s my first time to try to carving and print. We drew the draft of our object. I chose this whale. Then we practice in the plastic. The we started in Lino. It’s very hard to crave in lino, because it’s very solid, and we can’t use carving tools very well. That’s a very big problem for me. And I haven’t finished haft I felt tried. In order to carve it I spent a long time. Then I used brayer to rub the ink on paper, after that I use brayer with ink to cover my lino. Finally, put paper on it, use hand to press. 

  I chose white ink in black paper. It looks very conspicuous. As you can see, my lines of the whale are very clear. It a very simple printing. 

  I also saw many others printing in the video. Long time ago, people can use this technique to make artwork.  It stands the intelligent of the ancients.
